Khan at work
Terrorist Khan Mohammed, 38 of Nangarhar Province Afghanistan was sentenced to life in prison in a Washington, DC courtroom today. Khan was convicted of drug trafficking and narco-terrorism charges.
Seems he was plotting rocket attacks on U.S. military forces and Afghan civilians at Jalalabad airfield in Afghanistan. He was arrested, extradited and put on trial in the United States. He was also importing drugs as part of his jihad. Afghan police testified against him and submitted tape recordings of his attempt to buy missiles from an undercover officer.
He was unable to obtain the missiles he wanted, otherwise many would have been killed. Testimony in court clearly demonstrated he has an extreme hatred of the United States.
Now here’s the laughable part. He begged the judge before sentencing to give him one or two years so he could return to his family. He was sobbing as he asked the court to be merciful. Thankfully sense prevailed. The judge turned to Khan after sentencing and told him, “I heard your concerns for your family, but no acceptance of responsibility for your action.”
Khan will die in prison. A proper death for this Taliban terrorist.

Montreal Winter (CP photo)
I say bring global warming on. We in the great white north (Canada) could sure use some. The photo is of Montreal, but all of Canada is getting the cold stuff right now.
When you look at this picture be thankful you live somewhere warm. Me I’m thankful I have an indoor job.
Animals really are smarter than people. Bears and others hibernate all winter, and birds fly south.

December 1, 2008 I was fortunate enough to witness a rare celestial conjunction of the three brightest objects in the night sky.
Jupiter, Venus and the crescent moon aligned. I had a great view but alas didn’t have my camera handy. I post a picture taken in the Moroccan sky from CNN.
Events like this aren’t significant except to remind the viewer how small we earthlings really are in the scheme of things.
The next time this will occur is November 18, 2052. That likely leaves me out, since I would be 103 on that date.
The alignment is actually an optical illusion. The moon is 400,000 kilometres from Earth, Venus is 100 times further, and Jupiter more than 1,500 times further.

My New Grandson Lucas
I entered a new phase of my life recently. Lucas Kendall Prior came in the world October 19, 2008. He weighed in at 7 lb 13 oz., and was 21 1/2 inches long. Birthplace was Calgary, Alberta. My daughter Tricia and her husband Stephen Prior are the proud parents.
It’s a bit of a strange feeling, but I’m proud to be his grandfather. Once I held him for the first time, I immediately fell in love with him.
This picture of him was taken a couple of weeks ago. He is a real charmer.

I am blatantly stealing an idea from fellow blogger Dennis Price (Pappy). I feel pretty mellow today, so here’s a nice picture to reflect on.
PS Pappy’s blog link is on the right listed as The Texican.

The Canadian federal election was held in October this year. The Conservative Party won with the largest minority government in history. The electorate clearly did not support the Liberals or the New Democrats (NDP) based on both the number of seats won and the popular vote.
This week the Liberals, the NDP, and the Bloc Quebecois announced they were forming a coalition to topple the government. The Liberal leader, Stephane Dion, who lost badly in the election and who was forced to announce his resignation effective May 2009 will be the Prime Minister of Canada. This is a bloodless coup. The only thing bleeding today is the Constitution of Canada.
I thought coup d’etats only happened in banana republics of Central and Southern America, I was wrong. Canada just joined the non-Democracies of the world. I for one intend to never again bother voting in a national election. Not much use is there? The electorate of this country should be very angry and worried. We are on the slippery slope of dictatorship. I am truly ashamed of my country today. Small minds are destroying the very fabric of Canada.
Shame. Shame. Shame on the politicians of Canada.
